The interior public area design of Pudong Jiangcheng Business Creativity Center challenges the traditional concept on office spaces. It seamlessly integrates the cultural essence of an art gallery, the functionality of a business office, and the relaxing atmosphere of a coffee bookstore, resulting in an interplay and coexistence of the three elements in the space sequence. This design thinking is readily perceived in the public lobby on the first floor. The folding partition design, influenced by deconstructivist aesthetics, goes beyond its traditional functions of separation and visual guide. It is further converted to an ideal backdrop for displaying artworks and sculptures, giving each piece a distinct presence and moving expression. Additionally, the spatial planning and functional layout of the coffee bookstore provide a venue for clerical employees to take a rest, acquire and share knowledge independent of the workplace, creating a seamless connection and transition between work, art appreciation, and rest. Notably, the designer of this office space has made a bold attempt by using micro-cement art paint to cover the entire wall. This decision not only challenges the traditional use of materials in a typical office space, but also introduces a cutting-edge concept about how to treat such spaces. The seamless and aesthetically durable attribute of this material brings a clean and contemporary style to the entire public area, unconsciously enhancing the overall quality and user experience. For the reception desk in the office area, the design takes an amplified and exaggerated approach to highlight the ceremonial function of the office entrance. Considering the business-oriented nature of the space, this strategy not only restates functional significance, but also skillfully marks a clear visual boundary between the office reception and the art exhibition areas through visual design. In doing so, both spaces are considered professional and virtually coherent.
