Raaj Vilas, a striking 27-storey residential building in Mumbai, India, redefines urban living by bringing the timeless elegance of traditional Rajasthani architecture to a modern vertical format. Designed for a community with deep roots in Rajasthan, the building captures the essence of the desert state's regal palaces, providing residents with a unique blend of tradition and contemporary living.
The architectural style of Raaj Vilas draws inspiration from the ancient palaces of Rajasthan, echoing the grandeur of Udaipur鈥檚 iconic structures. This project emerged from a client brief that sought to recreate the splendor of Rajasthani palaces to make residents feel connected to their heritage. The developer鈥檚 vision was influenced by the success of a resort project we completed in Udaipur, a city renowned for its lakes and palatial architecture. The design also resonates with Middle Eastern and Moroccan styles, as these cultures share architectural roots from a flourishing historical era.
Raaj Vilas incorporates classic Rajasthani architectural elements with meticulous attention to detail. Features such as Chhajjas (sunshades), Jaali screens, intricate cornices, ornate architraves, decorative brackets, majestic domes, and iconic Jharokhas (bay windows) adorn the building鈥檚 fa莽ade. The use of Chhatris (pavilions) on the rooftop and traditional plaster, brick, and mortar finishes reinforce the authenticity of the design.
Each floor accommodates four spacious apartments, with the lift lobby designed to evoke the opulence of a Rajasthani palace. The building鈥檚 common areas offer a suite of luxurious amenities, including a business center, a small ballroom, a gym, a games room, a wellness center, and a spa. A covered swimming pool with a sun deck, outdoor courtyards for events, and shaded rooftops enhance the recreational experience for residents.
The rooftop is a standout feature, offering spaces for parties, yoga decks, and shaded seating under Chhatris, providing both functionality and aesthetic appeal. The combination of traditional design and modern comforts ensures that Raaj Vilas not only serves as a luxurious residential space but also stands as an architectural homage to Rajasthan鈥檚 royal heritage.
